According to the Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the legal status of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is not yet approved as a novel food in the EU. In Germany, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) follows the same Novel Food Regulation.

However, NMN is a specialized formulation and not a dietary supplement. It is produced through a complex and time-consuming process. Research on NMN is still developing and approval as a food supplement is currently under review by the EFSA (in Germany). Is NMN safe for pets?

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) appears to be safe for dogs according to expert opinion and scientific studies. In dogs, NMN is associated with improved energy, increased metabolism and reduced cellular ageing.

Dr. Peter Dobias, an EU-certified veterinarian with over 30 years of experience, confirms that NMN supplementation is "safe and well tolerated by dogs".

A 2020 study published in Frontiers in Pharmacology entitled Subacute Toxicity Study of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide via Oral Administration also declared the safety of NMN and established a dose for oral administration.
